Remember those three weird Android apps that Google launched yesterday? Turns out that they’re part of a bigger Android Experiments program from Google.

Android Experiments is a new effort from Google to promote the unique apps that developers are making for Android. The program is launching with 20 different apps for Android and Android Wear that include the three apps that launched yesterday as well as a motion-based Android Wear watch face, a drawing tool, a game, and even a robot that’s controlled by two Android devices.

Google is opening the Android Experiments program to everyone today, meaning that you can create using the Android SDK and NDK, OpenFrameworks, Unity, and other tools. Once you’ve completed a project, you can submit it to Google for potential inclusion on the Android Experiments site.

While the actual utility of these Android Experiments apps may vary, they all show the creativity of developers. It can be tough for an app to stand out in a crowded application store, especially one as crowded as Google Play or the App Store, but Google’s new Android Experiments effort can help shine a light on unique apps that might not have otherwise been discovered.
