Google has partnered with several different Android device makers to produce Nexus hardware in recent years, and it looks like 2015 will bring a new manufacturer to the Nexus group.
The Information claims that Google is working with Huawei on a new Nexus-branded Android smartphone for launch this fall. The report doesn’t include any additional details about the phone, but it does say that Huawei and Google could be working together to make an app store for China, where Google Play isn’t offered due to government regulations.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard rumblings of a Huawei Nexus phone. A report from back in May claimed that Google is actually prepping two Nexus phones for 2015: a Huawei model codenamed “Angler” that will feature a 5.7-inch screen, Snapdragon 810, and 3500mAh battery, as well as an LG “Bullhead” that’ll feature a 5.2-inch display, Snapdragon 808, and 2700mAh battery.
Huawei has made some nice-looking phones in the past, and so it’d be interesting to see what kind of hardware they could create in collaboration with Google. And while not everyone loves the ginormous Nexus 6 and its 5.96-inch display, I’d be happy to see another Nexus phablet released, and I’m sure there are a few others out there that feel the same way.
