Following its debut in early June, the ASUS ZenPad S 8.0 has made its way stateside.
Best Buy is now selling the ASUS ZenPad S 8.0 for $199.99. In exchange for your two Benajamins, you’ll get a tablet with Android 5.0 (Best Buys says 5.1, but ASUS says 5.0, and I’m inclined to go with the manufacturer on this one) and an 8-inch 2048x1536 display. There’s also a 2-megapixel camera and a pair of speakers on the ZenPad’s face, as well as a 5-megapixel shooter around back.
Inside the ZenPad S 8.0’s 6.9mm-thick body is a quad-core Intel Atom Z3530 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD card, and a battery that ASUS says will last for 8 hours of use.
The ZenPad S 8.0 looks like an attractive Android tablet, offering a high-res display, front speakers, and a microSD slot, all in a pretty thin package. And you get all of that for $200, which is cheaper than comparable tablets from Samsung and HTC/Google. ASUS’s custom Android UI may not be for everyone, but if that’s you, it might be worth taking that UI at this price point.
If you’d prefer something a bit small or easier on the wallet, Best Buy is also selling the 7-inch ASUS ZenPad. For $99.99, you’ll get an Android 5.0 tablet with a 7-inch 1280x600 display, Intel Atom x3-C3200 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, microSD slot, 0.3-megapixel front camera, and 2-megapixel front camera.
