T-Mobile has confirmed that it has beefed up its data plans with mobile hotspot capabilities as well as giving a larger allowance to unlimited customers.
Speaking to Fierce Wireless, T-Mobile says that it has enabled mobile hotspot on “all active data plans.” Now anyone with an active data plan can tether another device to their phone’s data connection using the data that they’ve already got. Once that data allotment is used up, their speeds will be throttled to 128Kbps rather than being cut off completely, which is how the hotspot feature used to work.
Additionally, customers with unlimited data plans are getting 2GB of extra hotspot usage added to their existing allotment. For example, the $80 plan with unlimited data and 5GB of hotspot usage will now include 7GB of hotspot data.
Mobile hotspot may not be a feature that everyone uses on a regular basis, but it’s definitely a handy feature to have because it allows you to get your laptop, tablet, or other device online when you’re away from Wi-Fi. Plus, it’s nice to see T-Mobile letting customers with a data plan use the data however they’d like, including for tethering.
