UPDATE: Nest has officially announced all of its new products. The Nest Cam will begin shipping in June.
Meanwhile, the company also revealed a new Nest Protect smoke alarm that’s smaller, lasts up to 10 years, and has the ability to differentiate between fast and slow-burning fires. The new Nest Protect is launching today for $99 and will begin shipping in July.
Nest also detailed the new version of it app, which is now rolling out to the Google Play store and App Store, and the new Nest Learning Thermostat software 4.5 that’s starting its rollout today.
Google’s Nest division today took to the stage to show off its newest product, the Cam. The Nest Cam is a security camera similar to the Dropcam, which Nest purchased one year ago.
The new Nest Cam offers 1080p video capture at 30 frames per second, and it’s got infrared night vision to let you see things up to 20 feet away in low light. The Cam also offers a 130 degree field of view, 8x zoom, a microphone for capturing sound and a speaker for playing back noise, which lets you communicate with whoever or whatever the Cam is recording.
When it comes to monitoring, you can use Activity Zones to customize areas that you want to keep an eye on closely. Included with free live streaming from your Cam, and you can also sign up for a Nest Aware subscription to save footage to the cloud.
When it comes to pricing, Best Buy has the new Nest Cam listed at $199.99. There’s no word yet on when the new Nest Cam will ship, but the Nest event is still going on right now, so I’m sure that we’ll hear more soon.
