Since the Moto X (2nd Gen.) was announced in early September, it’s not unreasonable to think that the Moto X (3rd Gen.) could be just a few months away from making its debut. If that’s the case, then Motorola would have some early hardware prototypes floating around, which is exactly what’s leaked out today.
An image of what appears to be the innards of the Moto X (3rd Gen.) has been posted by Hellomotohk. The photo shows a device that’s shaped like previous Moto Xs, sporting rounded corners and a circular camera housing, but it’s difficult to glean much else about the device from the image. However, Hellomotohk does say that other images that are floating around and claim to show the Moto X (3rd Gen.) with a fingerprint reader actually just show an “old engineering version.”
A second image included in today’s leak shows a mysterious Motorola device with a wireless charging coil. Hellomotohk suggests that it could be a new Nexus, but recent reports have said that LG and Huawei will be making this year’s new Nexus phones, not Motorola.
Finally, today’s leak claims that a new version of the DROID mini will arrive on Verizon this year, but no images of the device have been shared.
The design language of the past two Moto X phones has generally been well-received, offering bodies that are comfortable to hold, even if the 2nd Gen. was less one-hand-friendly than the 1st Gen. It’d be no surprise to see Motorola stick to that design language with the 3rd Gen., which is what it looks is happening in today’s leak. What’ll be interesting is seeing what changes Motorola does make to its new Moto X.
What new features do you hope to see in the Moto X (3rd Gen.)?
