Camera and battery performance are two of the most important smartphone features, with many folks relying on their handset to be their main camera, communication device, and more. And the good news for HTC One M9 owners is that their phone is getting an update that’ll improve both areas.
HTC is pushing an update to One M9 units in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa that bumps the phone to software version to 1.40.401.5. While the OS version stays at Android 5.0.2, the update does bring better camera performance thanks to a reduction in noise and blur in low light situations, as well as a greater auto-exposure balance to make image look less washed out. HTC’s thrown in reduced battery consumption for YouTube and Facebook as well.

One of the most widely-cited issues with the HTC One M9 at launch was its camera performance, and while HTC pushed out updates shortly after release to improve the One M9’s shooter, it’s nice to see HTC continue to improve the camera on its flagship phone. And it’s always nice to have better battery performance, so those tweaks are welcome as well, including the the thermal management tweak that ought to keep your phone cooler while you’re using Quick Charge 2.0 to juice your M9 up in a hurry.
This update is expected to begin hitting North American One M9 models later in June, so stay tuned for more on that rollout.
