With the recent relaunch of Tidal and rumors that Apple may soon refresh Beats Music, there’s been a lot of streaming music news lately. Now Rdio is making headlines of its own with a new subscription tier.
Rdio Select is a new subscription that’ll let you listen to ad-free radio stations on your phone or tablet that are based on artist, song, genre, and more, as well as a personalized station called You FM. Subscribers will also get you up to 25 song downloads that you can play offline. You’re able to replace those 25 downloads once per day. Rdio Select subscribers also get 320kbps audio streaming and ad-supported streaming on the web.
Rdio Select costs $3.99 per month — a whole $6 less than the Rdio Unlimited subscription that lets you listen to any song you want — and the new subscription is available today. To help celebrate the new plan, new Rdio Select users will get their first 60 days for free.
While streaming music services continue to grow in popularity, many folks just use the free, ad-supported tiers rather than ponying up for a premium subscription. Music services are trying to figure out how to convert those free users to paid ones, and Rdio Select is an attempt to do just that. While it doesn’t let you listen to any song at any time, it does give you radio with unlimited skips and no ads, as well as 25 songs that you can download at any time, and it’s $6 per month less than many other streaming music subs.
If you don’t already subscribe to a premium music service, does this Rdio Select plan appeal to you?
