UPDATE: @evleaks has posted some official-looking renders of the Samsung Galaxy S6 active. The images show both the dark blue version that previously leaked as well as a white version, both of which appear to have a digital camouflage pattern on their rear.

With the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5, Samsung released both the regular versions of the phones as well as toughened “Active” models that could take a bit more of a beating. A rumor recently suggested that that trend will continue with the Galaxy S6, and now a leak claims to give us the first look at that device.

Images shared by GSMArena claim to show the front and rear of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active. The photos depict a Samsung-branded smartphone with a trio of buttons on its face — Recent Apps, Home, and Back — just like past Active phones. Around back we see a squircle camera with a heart rate monitor that both look like the standard Galaxy S6, as well as “Galaxy S6 active” and AT&T branding. The entire phone appears wrapped in a tough body with four screws in its four corners, just like with Samsung’s past Active phones.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is said to feature the model number SM-G890A as well as a 5.1-inch 2560x1440 Super AMOLED display, Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 16-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front-facing cam. The S6 Active’s battery will reportedly be considerably larger than the one included with the standard S6: 3500mAh vs 2550mAh.

As I mentioned previously, Samsung has made Active versions of its Galaxy flagships, both of which were sold by AT&T in the U.S. Because of that, there’s nothing terribly shocking that’s been revealed by today’s leak, as many of us expect a toughened Galaxy S6 Active to hit AT&T’s shelves at some point. That said, we’re not ones to turn down an early look at an unannounced smartphone.
