We haven’t seen much of Android 5.1.1 yet, with the only sighting being a factory image for the Nexus Player. However the update apparently hit at least one phone recently, but it’s likely not one that you’d guess.
One xda-developers forum member claims to have received an update to Android 5.1.1 on his T-Mobile Galaxy S6 edge. The update is said to have weighed 550MB, and when the owner tried to root his S6 edge, he discovered that his bootloader had been locked.
Neither T-Mobile nor Samsung have made any announcements about this update, and as I mentioned earlier, we haven’t even seen Android 5.1.1 pushed to any Nexus smartphones yet. So what’s going on? It’s tough to say for sure, but it’s possible that this user just got lucky and got a test update pushed to their device super early. It’s unlikely that we’ll get an official explanation about what happened here, but one thing that’s sure is that a lot of us are jealous that this xda user is already on 5.1.1
