In addition to pushing out new apps Project Fi and Chrome Dev yesterday, Google has pushed a nice little update to its Messenger SMS app.
Perhaps the most notable new feature of Messenger is Quick Reply support, which lets you respond to an incoming message from the pop-up notification. To do so, you just tap the “Reply” button at the bottom of the pop-up alert. There’s also a button that’ll let you quickly jump into the full Messenger app if you’d like to read the full conversation.
Also included in the updated Messenger app is a new home screen widget that’ll let you scroll through the conversation thread that you’ve got going on with a contact.
Google Messenger may not get quite as much love as some other Google apps, but it’s quietly become a pretty nice SMS app for Android users. This update makes it even better, letting you reply to messages without even having to jump into the app, which is more than Hangouts can say. If you haven’t yet checked out Messenger, you can get it from the Google Play link below.
