Time for another Amazon Fire fire sale!
The Amazon Fire phone just got a hefty discount that knocks its price from $449 to $189 unlocked and contract-free. Each purchase includes a free year of Amazon Prime — which normally costs $99 — along with all of the benefits that a Prime subscription, like free two-day shipping, Prime Instant Video, Prime Music, unlimited cloud photo storage, and more.
If you need a refresher on the Fire phone’s specs, I’m happy to oblige. The device features a 4.7-inch 1280x720 display and 2.1-megapixel camera on its face and a 13-megapixel camera on its rear. The front of the phone also has four Dynamic Perspective sensors that can be used to navigate the OS, scroll through pages, and navigate maps. Inside of the Fire’s shell is a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 2400mAh battery, and 4G LTE that’ll play nicely with AT&T, T-Mobile, and other U.S. GSM operators. Software-wise, you’re looking at Amazon’s custom Fire OS, which is running atop Android.
The Amazon Fire phone certainly isn’t the most highly-regarded Android phones around, but it’s got a decent spec list and could be worth a look if you’re on the hunt for a cheap GSM phone. An OS update that hit in December 2014 brought many improvements to the phone, like tons of bug fixes and UI improvements, custom ringtone support, and new lock screen features. And hey, if you’re not already an Amazon Prime member, you can buy the phone and think of it as a $90 add-on for your Prime subscription.
Amazon says that the sale is a “limited time offer,” but there’s no word yet on just how long the sale will last. If you decide to spring for a $189 Fire phone, be sure to let us know!
