The iPhone 6s rumor mill has officially began to run.
A new report claims to have details on the next iPhone, referred to as the “iPhone 6s.” Apple Insider claims to have been told by “a person familiar with Apple’s future product plans” that the iPhone 6s will include 2GB of RAM. It’s also suggested that the next iPhone could come preinstalled with an Apple SIM, a special SIM that’s included with the cellular iPad Air 2 that lets you switch carriers and sign up for plans without having to actually switch SIM cards. Finally, it’s suggested that the next iPhone might include Force Touch, a feature that’s coming with the Apple Watch and is able to distinguish between a light touch and a more forceful one.
Apple frequently launches features on one new iOS device and then brings it to another one. For example, Touch ID debuted on the iPhone 5s and then made its way onto the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3. The iPad Air 2 includes 2GB of RAM and an Apple SIM, so it wouldn’t be a huge shock to see the next iPhone gain those features. It’d be interesting to see if Apple could get the carriers on board with Apple SIM since it kind of eliminates the need to visit their stores. Of course, Apple SIM is meant for short-term, no commitment plans, so don’t expect to buy an iPhone 6s with a two-year contract or an installment plan and then be able to switch carriers whenever you please.
