Instagram today announced a major new feature for its service. The bad news? Well, you probably can’t use it yet.
Instagram is adding carousel ads to its service that allow brands to attach multiple images and a link to their post. Carousel ads will be identified by a series of dots that appear directly beneath the image. Once you find one, you can swipe left to scroll through the multiple images, and brands can attach a link to the final image that can be accessed by tapping a “Learn More” button.
These new carousel ads are Instagram’s version of multi-page advertisements that are often found in magazines. For example, a car maker could include several images of a vehicles interior and exterior, then include a link to the car’s page on their website.
Instagram says that it’ll be rolling carousel ads out on a “limited basis” in the coming weeks. It’s kind of a bummer that the feature isn’t available to regular users, because I bet that a lot of folks would like to be able to post multiple related images at once and ensure that they all appear together. Here’s to hoping that it eventually makes its way to consumers.
Would you use Instagram’s new carousel feature if it were made available to regular users?
