Apple’s iOS beta releases are typically meant only for registered iOS developers, but that may change next month.

Apple will reportedly launch a beta version of iOS 8.3 to the public in mid-March, claims sources speaking to 9to5Mac. A few months later in the summer, Apple is expected to release a beta version of iOS 9 to the public.

Apple seeded beta versions of OS X 10.10 Yosemite to regular folks before the OS’s public release last year, and so that program’s success may have convinced Apple to try out public iOS betas as well. That’s exciting news for anyone that’s ever wanted to try an iOS beta but didn’t want to pay the $99 per year fee to join the developer program. And while betas can have bugs, I’m betting that a lot of folks will endure some bugginess in order to get a preview of a an upcoming iOS update.
