UPDATE: Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed on his Q1 FY15 earnings call that Apple shipped its one billionth iOS device in November 2014. Cook said that the device, an 64GB space grey iPhone 6 Plus, is now at Apple HQ.
UPDATE 2: When asked about the sales mix of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last quarter, Tim Cook wouldn’t break out specific numbers, but he did say that the iPhone 6 was the most popular iPhone model in the quarter.
UPDATE 3: Tim Cook says that Apple TV had a solid quarter in Q1 FY15 and that his company has sold more than 25 million Apple TV units to date.
UPDATE 4: Tim Cook says that with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launch, Apple saw more new customers to iPhone than ever before, including the highest rate of Android switchers than the previous three iPhone launches.
Yesterday Microsoft reported its quarterly earnings for the final months of 2014, and now it’s Apple turn to do the same.
Apple today revealed the results of its first fiscal quarter of 2015, saying that it sold a total of 74.5 million iPhones — a record for the company — and 21.4 million iPads. To compare, Apple sold 39.27 million iPhones and 12.32 million iPads in Q4 FY14, and it moved 51 million iPhones and 26 million iPads in Q1 FY14.
On the financial side, Apple posted a record quarterly revenue of $74.6 billion and a record quarterly profit of $18 billion. The Cupertino firm says that its financial records are a result of all-time record revenue from iPhone and Mac sales, as well record App Store performance.
So yeah, it looks like Apple had itself a pretty nice quarter. While its iPad sales dropped year-over-year, its iPhone sales more than made up for that by growing more than 20 million units. Looks like those larger iPhone models ended up doing pretty well for Apple. And Apple sold a record number of iPhone models over the holiday, it comes as no surprise that the App Store did pretty well too, because all of those iPhone buyers need apps to load onto their new handsets.
Apple will hold a conference call to discuss its Q1 FY15 numbers at 2:00 pm PT/5:00 pm ET. I'll listen in and report back with any additional information that's shared.
