Android flip phones are basically nonexistent in the U.S., but we’ve seen quite a few debut overseas, where companies like Samsung and LG introduce phones like the Galaxy Golden and Wine Smart. Today we’ve got another Android clamshell in the spotlight thanks to the Life’s Good crew.
The LG Ice Cream Smart [Google Translate] features a 3.5-inch 480x320 display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 8-megapixel rear and VGA front cameras, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a microSD slot, and 4G LTE connectivity. It’s powered by a combination of Android 4.4 and a removable 1700mAh battery.
One feature that makes the Ice Cream Smart stand out — other than its clamshell form factor, that is — is its dedicated KakaoTalk button. The button will let you quickly and easily jump into the cross-platform KakaoTalk messenger app, but LG says that it can be set to a different messaging app.
The LG Ice Cream Smart is set to be released in South Korea, and like Android flip phones that’ve come before it, it’s unlikely that we’ll ever see the Ice Cream Smart venture into other markets. That said, it’s nice to see companies like LG continuing to offer smartphones in the clamshell form factor for folks that prefer that to a big ol’ touchscreen slab, even if those flip phones are only available in select markets.
Would you use an Android-powered flip phone as your daily driver?
