Remember the Samsung Z? The device as announced in June 2014 and was slated to be the first Tizen smartphone for the public. The Samsung Z never got to see the fluorescent light of retail stores, though, because it ended up getting canceled. Now a new leak has revealed what may be the successor to the Samsung Z and the true first publicly-available Tizen phone.
Twitter user Manish Khatri has posted several images from an Indian retailer event for the Samsung Z1. The device is considerably more entry-level than the Samsung Z, sporting a smaller and lower-res display, considerably less RAM and a more compact battery. The Samsung Z1’s alleged specs are as follows:
So yeah, the Samsung Z1 isn’t what you would call a highly-spec’d device. It’s likely that Samsung’s goal with the Z1 is to offer an extremely affordable device to make the first Tizen device available to all, though, and in that regard it looks like it’ll succeed. The Samsung Z1 is expected to launch in India in January 2015, so it may not be long before we finally see Tizen smartphones released to the public.
