Mobile payments have been getting a lot of news in recent months thanks to the launch of Apple Pay, which has garnered attention for both itself and Google Wallet. Now it looks like both services may get a big boost this month thanks to Walt Disney.
Walt Disney World will begin accepting Apple Pay, Google Wallet, and similar contactless payment services on December 24, according to fan site WDWMagic. It’s expected that most shops, including stores, quick service restaurants, bars, and ticket sales booths will supported out of the gate, with places like table service restaurants adding support later on. The Disneyland Resort is expected to support Apple Pay in 2015.
While Walt Disney World is just one resort, the launch of Apple Pay and Google Wallet support there is huge for the platforms. The resort draws in a ton of consumers every year, and I imagine that a lot of people will be happy to just tap their phone to pay — which they’ll probably already have out or readily-accessible — rather than fumble with their wallet.
