Apple touted a number of new features that are included with the iPad Air 2 today, including Touch ID and the new A8X processor. Now that the iPad Air 2 is on Apple’s website, it appears that the device has another major new feature that Apple didn’t mention at all during its keynote.

Apple’s iPad Air 2 product page has revealed that the cellular iPad Air 2 comes with an “Apple SIM” that lets you sign up for service from multiple carriers without having to swap SIM cards. In the US, iPad Air 2 customers can select plans from AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile, all without having to pop one SIM out and put another in. The UK’s EE is also listed as a participating carrier.

Users have been able to sign up for cellular plans on their iPads for some time now, but the iPad Air 2 is the first model that will allow users to actually switch carriers on their device as well. That’s pretty big news, as it means that users can easily switch carrier plans based on which operator has the best coverage wherever they may be (so long as that carrier isn’t Verizon, that is).
