Following its announcement of the iPad Air 2, Apple revealed that it’s also got a new iPad mini for us.
The iPad mini 3 features a 7.9-inch Retina display, which is a resolution of 2048x1536. Also included with the new iPad mini is a 5-megapixel rear camera with support for 1080p HD video capture, a FaceTime HD front-facing camera, 802.11n with MIMO support and Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor. It's worth noting that the iPad mini 3 didn't receive a processor upgrade like the iPad Air 2 did, so the iPad mini 3 is using an Apple A7 chip just like the one found in the iPad mini 2.
Like the iPad Air 2, the iPad mini 3 will come in space gray, silver and gold colors. Pricing for the Wi-Fi variants will be set at $399 for the 16GB model, $499 for the 64GB model and $599 for the capacious 128GB model. If you want cellular connectivity too, you can expect to pony up $529, $629 and $729, respectively. Preorders for the iPad mini 3 will begin tomorrow.
Apple also revealed today that both the iPad mini 2 (formerly iPad mini with Retina display) will stick around with a starting price of $299 for the Wi-Fi-only model. The OG iPad mini — the one that features a lower-res 1024x768 screen and dual-core Apple A5 processor — will also still be available, complete with a starting price of $249.
