Apple Pay made its big debut last month, but at the time, we were only told that the service would launch sometime in October. Today Apple got a bit more specific about its Apple Pay launch plans.

Apple CEO Tim Cook just announced that Apple Pay will launch on Monday, October 20. Apple Pay will launch with support from the three major credit card companies — American Express, MasterCard and Visa — as well as a number of banks and retailers. Tim Cook also revealed that since Apple Pay’s announcement, Apple has signed Apple Pay deals with several more retailers and 500 more banks.

Apple Pay certainly isn’t the first mobile payment effort that we’ve ever seen. None of the previous solutions have really caught on with consumers, though, so it’ll be interesting to see if Apple’s offering can do it. Tim Cook said today that it’s sold a record number of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units “by a whole lot,” so Apple Pay certainly has a large base of users to start with.
