Apple is holding an event tomorrow at which it’s likely that we’ll see some new iPad hardware. Apparently someone at Apple couldn’t wait to share the good news, though, as mentions of two new iPad models have appeared in the preview for Apple’s iPad User Guide for iOS 8 iBook.
As you can see in the screenshot above, the iPad User Guide for iOS 8 includes references to and images of an “iPad Air 2” and “iPad mini 3.” Both models look similar to the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display, respectively. It’s hard to glean many details about the devices since the images are so small, but the layouts do show that they’ll both have Touch ID fingerprint sensors.
There’s not really anything terribly surprising about today’s leak, as most folks expected the new iPad models to come with Touch ID fingerprint sensors given the feature’s inclusion in Apple Pay. What’s interesting about this leak is that it came from Apple itself, which is something that we don’t see often.
