Just a couple of weeks after Dong Nguyen released a new version of Flappy Bird for the Amazon Fire TV, it’s been revealed that he’s got a full new game coming later this week.
Nguyen’s new game is titled Swing Copters, and it offers the same basic goal as Flappy Bird: you need to get through as many gates as possible without getting hit. In Swing Copters, you control a small thing with a propeller on its head. You tap once to start flying up, shifting from side to side each time you tap the character. You’re tasking with navigating between platforms sticking out from either side of the screen, each with a swinging hammer hanging from the edge.
Swing Copters is slated to launch this Thursday, August 21. The app will be a free download with ads, though you’ll be able to pay a $0.99 in-app purchase to make them go away.
After viewing the gameplay trailer for Swing Copters, I definitely get a Flappy Bird vibe from it, giving users a seemingly simple task that’s actually pretty difficult in practice. The good news is that it’s easy to start over after you lose, encouraging you to try one more time.
The inclusion of a $0.99 in-app purchase to remove ads is also a welcome addition. While the ads don’t look like they really get in the way, it’s nice to have the option for folks that simply don’t like looking at ads while playing a game.
What do you think of Swing Copters? Will you be checking it out when it launches later this week?
