When Foursquare first announced its new check-in-centric app Swarm in early May, it said that Android and iOS versions would launch first and that a Windows Phone app would come shortly thereafter. Fast-forward to mid-August and Windows Phone users finally have a new way to check in to venues.
Swarm is now live in the Windows Phone Store, offering the same features as its Android and iOS counterparts. Users can quickly check into a venue and add a sticker to the check-in, post plans for nearby friends to see and view their nearby friends’ locations. The app is compatible with Windows Phone 8.1 devices and weighs in at 4MB.
While the Windows Phone Store is constantly growing, app selection is still one of the top complaints that users have with Microsoft’s mobile OS. The app gap between Windows Phone and Android/iOS continues to shrink, though, and today’s launch of Swarm helps to close that distance even more. Here’s to hoping that it gets updated as frequently as the Android and iOS versions have been.
Foursquare also says that it plans to launch a refreshed version of its main app for Windows Phone — similar to the one that recently hit Android and iOS — sometime this fall.
After you download Swarm from the Windows Phone Store, be sure to share your first impressions with us!
