It may not be Update Wednesday any more, but that doesn’t mean that Google is done showing love to Android users.
Today Google released two pieces of software that many Android folks are going to be interested in. First up are new images of the Android L Developer Preview. These new images are build LPV81C, up from the LPV79 build that was released in late June. As before, these images are only available for the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013).
Google doesn’t say exactly what’s included with this updated Android L Developer Preview, but since the build numbers are so close, we can surmise that the two builds were completed close to one another. Google does say that developers should download these new images and not the ones shown on the Android Developers main page because these “include the necessary support for Google Fit,” so it’s likely that there’s some Fit-related stuff in here.
The second goodie let loose by Google today is the Google Fit Preview SDK. Google first introduced us to Google Fit at I/O in May, explaining it as a service that can gather data from multiple sources to help users get a complete picture of their fitness and track their goals.
The Google Fit Preview SDK includes the three sets of APIs that developers will need to begin building apps that take advantage of Google Fit. Those include the Sensors API for high-level access to sensors from devices and wearables, a Recording API to gather a cloud-synced background of fitness data and a History API that lets apps read, insert and delete data.
