Google gave us a brief preview of Android TV at I/O in June and teased that companies like Sony, Sharp and TP Vision had committed to bringing Android TV hardware to market. We haven’t heard much about the platform since, but today some developers have started to receive their ATV test hardware.
The folks at Android Police have gotten hold of an Android TV preview kit, known as ADT-1, and has shared a couple of images of the unit for all to see. Included with ADT-1 is a small black set top box, some cables, a battery and a PlayStation 3-like controller with a d-pad, dual analog sticks, and several buttons for things like Home and Back.
While Android TV and its associated hardware isn’t expected to launch until Android L does in the fall, it’s good to see that developers are already receiving their preview kits. This means that they’ll have a few months to get create apps that should be available at the official launch of Android TV or shortly thereafter. Now we just have to wait for these lucky devs to dive into the new platform and hopefully come back up with some awesome stuff.
