Remember that rumor of a device called the “Samsung Galaxy Alpha” that popped up earlier this month? Well the device is back again, but this time we’re getting a peek at what very well could be the actual hardware.
Vietnamese site Tihn te has posted several images of a Samsung device that identifies itself as the “Samsung Galaxy Alpha. The handset has a squarish body that reminiscent of the Galaxy Note 3, a dimpled backside like the Galaxy S5 and a square camera module with a heart rate sensor.
The body of the Galaxy Alpha is expected to be made of metal rather than plastic like previous Galaxy devices. However, it looks like the removable back plate is plastic like the one found on the Galaxy S5. We can also see LTE-A branding on the Alpha’s rear, suggesting that it’s got LTE-Advanced support.
The Galaxy Alpha is expected to be a premium addition to Samsung’s Galaxy family. There haven’t been any specific spec details for the Alpha leaked, but it’s possible that the Alpha could be the new name for the Samsung Galaxy F, which is expected to feature a 2560x1440 display, Snapdragon 805 processor and 3GB of RAM.
While it remains to be seen if this Galaxy Alpha is the real deal, it certainly has the makings of a premium Galaxy S5. And while Samsung doesn’t necessarily need to release a premium smartphone to put up against its competition, the company has shown that it’s more than happy to release several kinds of devices, and so this Galaxy Alpha may just be another of Samsung’s efforts to throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks.
UPDATE: Well, that didn’t take long. Shortly after the first Samsung Galaxy Alpha images leaked, the folks at SamMobile have posted more photos and details of the device.
The Galaxy Alpha is said to feature a 4.7-inch display and a body with aluminum sides and a plastic, dimpled backside. Also said to be included with the Alpha is a fingerprint scanner, 32GB of internal storage and no microSD slot.
As you can see in the image above, the Galaxy Alpha appears to be a tad smaller than the Galaxy S5. And while we still don’t know its full spec sheet, the Alpha sounds like it might be a slightly lower-end version of the Galaxy S5 rather than a super premium device like previous rumors had suggested.
