Yesterday Verizon reported its results for the second quarter of 2014, and today it’s AT&T’s turn in the earnings spotlight.
AT&T reports that it added 1.026 million postpaid subscribers during Q2, which is its strongest postpaid growth in the last five years. Its total number of wireless subscribers grew by 634,000. That number is the result of its postpaid adds, its loss of 405,000 prepaid users, 175,000 connected device adds and 162,000 reseller losses.
Postpaid smartphone adds finished the quarter at 1.6 million, brining AT&T’s total smartphone-toting postpaid subscriber base to 54.6 million. That figure is up from 49.5 million one year ago.
Looking specifically at rate plans, AT&T reports that its Mobile Share plans are responsible for 41 million connections, or approximately 56 percent of postpaid subscribers. AT&T Next adds and upgrades finished the quarter at 3.1 million.
AT&T’s total wireless revenue for the quarter grew 3.7 percent year over year to finish at $17.9 billion. The big blue carrier saw wireless service revenues decrease by 1.4 percent to finish at $15.1 billion, while wireless equipment revenues jumped up 44.8 percent to $2.8 billion.
