It’s a new month, which means that it’s time for some fresh Android platform distribution numbers!
Google just updated its Android Developers site with the latest stats on which versions of Android were used to access Google Play during the 7-day period ending today, June 4. There aren’t any huge changes from last month’s figures, but there’s still some good news to be shared.
During the survey period. Android 4.4 KitKat was present on 13.6 percent of all devices, up from 8.5 percent in May. Android 4.1-4.3 Jelly Bean finished with 58.4 percent, down from 60.8 percent last month, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich fell to 12.3 percent.
Moving on to pre-4.0 versions, it’s worth noting that this is the first time that Android 3.2 Honeycomb is missing from the list. Last month, Honeycomb had a 0.1 percent share of all devices. Android 2.3 Gingerbread fell from 16.2 percent in May to 14.9 percent in June, while Android 2.2 Froyo dropped from 1 percent to 0.8 percent.
While I’m sure that many Android fans want Google to roll out a fresh new dessert at this point, the fact that we’re still on KitKat means that that version has had more time to hit existing devices and appear on new ones. And while Jelly Bean still represents a sizable portion of all Android products, the good news is that at least those users are only one major version behind.
