Looks like June just got a little bit busier. We’re currently knee-deep in Apple’s WWDC and we’ve got events with T-Mobile, Sprint and Google coming up. Now we’ve got one more event to add to the calendar, as Amazon has announced that it’s got something planned for June 18.
Amazon says that it will unveil a new device at an event on June 18, and while it doesn’t provide any information about what that product is, the company has posted a teaser video that shows people interacting with it. The clip shows users moving their heads around while staring at something in their hands and saying things like “It moved with me” and “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that.”
We’ll have to wait until June 18 to find out exactly what Amazon’s got up its sleeve, but it’s possible that that date could finally bring the reveal of Amazon’s smartphone. The device is rumored to feature multiple front cameras that will track the position of the user’s face and alter the perspective of the phone’s user interface. It’s also said that this feature will be used to navigate menus.
Along with its tilt-heavy UI, the Amazon smartphone will reportedly feature a 4.7-inch 720p display, Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel rear camera. Those aren’t exactly barn-burning specs in mid-2014, but I’m sure that the main focus of the device will be its unique UI.
