Back in February, Sprint updated both its Galaxy S 4 and Galaxy Note 3 to Android 4.4.2, the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system. Now Sprint has revealed that it’s time for Galaxy S III owners to enjoy a KitKat treat.
Sprint today updated its Samsung Galaxy S III support page to show that the device will begin receiving an update to Android 4.4 starting on May 1. The update will bump the Galaxy S III up to software version L710VPUCND8. Unfortunately, that’s all we know about the update right now, as the only improvement included in Sprint’s changelog is “Android 4.4 KitKat update.”
Sprint announced earlier this year that it planned to update its Galaxy S III to Android 4.4, so the news of today’s update comes as no surprise. Still, it’s great to see Samsung and Sprint showing love to the two-year-old Galaxy S III by bumping it up to the newest flavor of Android.
Stay tuned and I’ll update you with the full changelog for this update once it goes live. Until then, you Sprint Galaxy S III owners can manually check for this update by going into Settings > More > System Update > Update Samsung Software > Check now.
