Looks like T-Mobile is going to be treating itself to some new 700MHz spectrum.

The FCC has officially approved T-Mobile’s purchase of 700MHz A-Block spectrum licenses from Verizon. The deal will see T-Mo drop $2.365 billion in cash as well as some of its own AWS and PCS spectrum in exchange for 700MHz spectrum that covers approximately 150 million people.

T-Mobile VP of Federal Regulatory Affairs Kathleen Ham confirmed the approval to Wireless Week, saying that the newly-acquired licenses will give T-Mo additional spectrum “in a number of key markets across the country. The group of 23 markets in which T-Mo will be gaining spectrum includes New York City, Detroit, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Dallas, among others.

T-Mobile has previously said that it intends to use the 700MHz spectrum from Verizon to help build out its 4G LTE network. T-Mo’s LTE network currently covers 209 million people in 273 metro areas.
