Remember that rumor that claimed that Google was planning to release a new, standalone camera app into the Play Store? Looks like it was the real deal, because a new “Google Camera” app has just appeared on the Play Store’s virtual shelves.
Google Camera features an “updated UI that gets out of your way” as well as a large capture button that ought to make it pretty easy to snap photos. The app also includes a 100 percent viewfinder that allows users to get the maximum resolution from their photos.
The app includes a number of software features for capturing and editing shots, including Photo Sphere, Lens Blur for creating a shall depth of field and a high-res Panorama mode.
We’ve seen several companies release standalone versions of their Android apps in the Play Store recently, including HTC, Motorola and Google. This is a great trend because it allows those firms to more quickly issue updated versions of their apps, and in this case, it also lets more users try out Google’s own apps.
Google Camera is compatible with phones and tablets running Android 4.4 or higher. You can download it by hitting up the Play Store link below. Once you do, be sure to leave your first impressions in the comments section!
