Now that flagship devices like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One (M8) have made their debut, many wireless fans are anxiously waiting to see what LG will have on offer for its big 2014 release. The good news is that while we wait for LG to come forward with the official details on its follow-up to the G2, the rumor mill is happy to provide us with details on the device.

A new report from The Verge has revealed that LG’s next flagship smartphone will be known as the “LG G3,” just as most folks expect. The name appears on a golden box for the unannounced device, and according to the sources of today’s leak, the G3 itself will be sold in a similar golden hue.

That gold color option isn’t the only LG G3 detail that we know about. The Life’s Good crew today confirmed that its next handset will sport a screen resolution of 2560x1440, up from the 1920x1080 display found on the LG G2.

Finally, some details about the design of the LG G3 itself have surfaced. It’s said that the recently-leaked LG isai FL features a “familial resemblance” to the G3, suggesting that LG’s next flagship could sport a similar design with minimal bezels.

While still very much unofficial, many of the details in today’s report on the LG G3 make sense. For example, we’ve seen Apple, HTC and Samsung all hop aboard the gold train by releasing champagne-colored smartphones in the past year, and so I wouldn’t be surprised if LG ends up doing the same with its next flagship. The company also debuted a high-res 2560x1440 smartphone display last year, and so I’m sure that it’d like to use that feature as a way to make its G3 stand out from the other high-end smartphones on the market.
