The follow-up to the HTC One, codenamed M8, has been dominating the rumor mill lately by appearing in a multitude of screenshot and spec leaks. Today another upcoming HTC phone is getting some time in the leaky spotlight, though, and this one's a biggie. Literally.
The device you see above is being referred to as the "Desire 8" and is said to feature a 5.5-inch touchscreen. This dual-SIM Android device is also reportedly packing a 13-megapixel shooter on its backside, 5-megapixel front camera with a "beautification mode" and a set of front-facing speakers. The Desire 8 is expected to be available in several colors, including white, red, yellow, orange and cyan. Mmm cyan.
Interestingly, the device shown in this leaked image doesn't include any capacitive navigation buttons on its face, suggesting that the Desire 8 will emulate its M8 sibling and adopt on-screen keys. But there aren't any of those in this shot, either. There's a chance that this render was thrown together simply to give an idea of what the Desire 8 will look like and that it's not meant for public consumption, but we'll just have to wait until the Desire 8 makes its official debut before we know for sure what's going on.
As for when that'll happen, Mobile World Congress is scheduled to go down in just a couple of weeks, and that stage seems like as good as any to introduce a new handset. That's especially true if HTC is planning to send out invitations to its M8 unveiling in two weeks, which would mean that it'd need something to show off in Barcelona. Here's to hoping that the Desire 8 is that something.
