Yesterday, I asked all of you to take a look at your phone, to inspect it for a few moments, while at the same time remembering why you bought it. No matter how long it's been, I wanted to know what feature, or design element, or platform, had been the "nail in the coffin" for your purchase. And then, after that, I wanted you to tell me what you were looking to upgrade this year. The display, or the memory, or maybe even the platform version. Whatever the case, I wanted to know on general terms what it was you were looking to make better with your newest phone purchase.

I know a lot of people who handle their next phone purchase like this. Instead of being focused on a single platform, and just choosing from there or picking the best phone that offers that mobile OS, they just take a look at what they need to improve with their current device, and pick a phone from there.

In this same regard, this is why I know a lot of people who have left iOS. Because the display just hasn't reached the size they want. And why I know some folks who have left HTC-branded devices. Because software updates were just not all that common.

But what about those who have already made up their mind?

I was having a quick conversation with someone late yesterday, about Mobile World Congress and all the devices that may or may not make an appearance at the event later this month. While I'm excited to see all the handsets and gadgets that are shown off at the show, this person didn't really care about the whole thing. Whatever was announced wasn't going to get nearly as much coverage as one particular device, and it really didn't matter what else was unveiled.

All because of the Galaxy S5 from Samsung, which is expected to be unveiled at the start of Mobile World Congress, at the Unpacked 5 event. Indeed, Samsung is already starting to tease what's going to be unveiled at their event, and the safe bet would indeed be the latest addition to the Galaxy S lineup. While the phone itself is probably going to be pretty great, and yes, it will get plenty of coverage (it already is), but I'm not sure if it warrants a discarding of Mobile World Congress as a whole.

Then again, there's probably quite a few people out there who feel the same way, and I wanted to start a conversation around this idea. Despite the fact that the Galaxy S5 is still a mystery at this point, without a scrap of confirmed specs or even a leaked image of what it could look like, could this be your next phone already?
