Motorola's Droid Zap application debuted with Verizon's latest trio of Droid phones — the Ultra, Maxx and Mini — giving owners of those devices a quick way to share photos with other Droid owners nearby. The app made sharing images easy, requiring only that the sender slide up on his or her display with two fingers while the receiver performed a downward two-finger swipe, but the fact that the app was only compatible with those three Droid phones made its usefulness somewhat limited.
Thankfully that's changed today, because Motorola has issued a major update to the Droid Zap app that enables send support for all Android phones. Sharing images with version 2.1 of the Droid Zap app works just like it did when it was a Droid-only app. Users can select a photo or video that they'd like to share and then swipe up on their device's display to wirelessly beam the content out to others.
In order to receive a Zapped photo or video, a user can open up Droid Zap and swipe down on their phone's display with two fingers. If the sender wants to restrict who is able to receive the photo or image that's being sent, a PIN requirement can be set so that only Droid Zap owners with that special passcode can download the content.
Motorola couldn't roll out a major Droid Zap update like this without showing a little extra love to its Droid-owning customers. Also included with version 2.1 of Droid Zap is a new feature called "Zap Zone" that allows one user to invite his or her friends to a special group and get connected with all of the other members of the party. Once inside the group, any photos that are taken are automatically shared with all of the other party members. Zap Zone is compatible with Droid phones on Android 4.1 or higher.
While anyone that wants to beam photos using Droid Zap will still need to find friends with the app installed on their phones, the fact that Droid Zap now features send support for all Android phones means that you Droiders that've been stuck Zapping one another for the past several months now have a much larger pool of potential Zapping partners. Just send your friends this link and tell 'em to get to downloading.
