The tale of the Verizon and the Nexus 7 is a long and strange one. Google first introduced the Nexus 7 in July 2013 and said that the LTE-enabled version of its new tablet would play nicely with AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon.
The LTE Nexus 7 launched in September, but Verizon customers ran into issues when trying to activate their N7 on the big red carrier's network. Verizon then came forward and said that the Nexus 7 had not yet been certified for use on its network, but that that would change shortly. Then in November, Verizon revealed that it was putting the Nexus 7's certification process on hold until it was updated to Android 4.4 because of a systems issue with the device. Both Google and Verizon have been silent on the situation since.
Fast-forward to today, Feb. 7, and it appears that Verizon may finally be ready to begin selling the Nexus 7. Sources speaking to Droid-Life claim that the 7-inch KitKat slate will be available from Verizon next week, possibly on Feb. 13. However, it's not yet known if Verizon will sell the device in stores and online or if it'll only be available through one of those channels.
This whole situation is pretty weird, especially since we haven't heard anything from either Google or Verizon for months, despite the fact that the Nexus 7 got bumped up to Android 4.4 back in November. All that matters now is that this thing might finally be ironed out soon and Verizon customers may soon be able to purchase and activate an LTE Nexus 7 without issue.
