In an interesting twist, the string of Nokia Lumia 929 leaks is simultaneously continuing and coming to an end today. You're probably thinking "Say what?" right about now, but bear with me.

According to reports from @evleaks and WPCentral, the Nokia Lumia 929 will actually be known as the Nokia Lumia Icon when it comes to market, making it the first Lumia-branded piece of kit to not go by a model number. There's no word on what caused the name change or whether this switch from model numbers to actual names is a one-off occurrence or a permanent change for Nokia. 

Now for perhaps the most important detail related to the handset formerly known as the Lumia 929: its launch date. It's said that Nokia and Verizon are currently targeting a Thursday, Jan. 16 release, which is less than a week after CES 2014 wraps up in Las Vegas. That could work out well, as it would give Nokia and Verizon a big stage to announce its new device on before adding it to store shelves.

The Nokia Lumia Icon is expected to be the follow-up to Lumia 928, which is actually the last Windows Phone to launch at Verizon. Included with Nokia and Verizon's latest collaboration will be a 5-inch 1080p display, 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 20-megapixel rear camera with a second front-facing shooter, 32GB storage and 2GB RAM. All of those goodies combine to make a device that's quite a step up from the Lumia 928 and should make the end of Verizon's Windows Phone drought even more exciting for fans of the platform. Now we just have to hope that the Lumia Icon's rumored Jan. 16 launch date holds true so that we can stop drooling over the device in leaks and start drooling over it while it's in our hands.
