Android 4.4 KitKat is continuing to slowly spread its way throughout the Android ecosystem today as it begins making its way to another device. At least one user over on the XDA-developer forums has received an official Android 4.4 update on their HTC One Google Play edition, which arrived as a 305.4MB over the air update. The update bumps the HTC One GPe up to build KRT16S and, while it does include KitKat goodies like improved performance and a refreshed phone dialer with caller ID, this update doesn't include the new launcher with Google Now integrated like the one found on the Nexus 5.
HTC said a little over a week ago that it had handed the KitKat code for its One Google Play edition off to Google, and so we had a feeling that the official update couldn't be too far off. Still, it's good to see the Google Play edition hardware getting treated to some Android 4.4 goodness less than a month after the new version of Google's mobile operating system was first unleashed. We've yet to hear anything from Samsung about the KitKat update for its Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition.
If you're rocking an HTC One GPe, you can check for the update manually by heading into Settings > About phone > System updates. Just keep in mind that these things are usually pushed out in phases, so you may have to wait a bit before you can break off your own piece of Google's KitKat bar. Alternatively, the folks at on XDA have shared an OTA link for anyone that's feeling impatient and would prefer to sideload the update. It's also worth noting that HTC has posted the source code for the update if you're into that sort of thing.
