If you've ever ordered a new smartphone or tablet online, you know how painful it can be to wait several days for your shiny toy to make its way from a warehouse to your doorstep. Verizon customers in Philadelphia no longer need to worry about enduring such hardships, though, as the big red carrier has launched a same-day delivery pilot program in Philadelphia.
Verizon is now offering same-day delivery of devices ordered through its website, including those purchased with accessories, in a total of 169 zip codes in and around Philadelphia. Customers that make their purchase by 10:00 a.m. can choose to have their new device delivered by 7:00 p.m. that same day. Pricing is set at $19.99, which is $5 more than Verizon's overnight delivery rate. While just a pilot program for now, Verizon says that it plans to roll the same-day delivery service out to New York City, Dallas, San Francisco and Pittsburgh "in the near future."
This same-day delivery service may seem a tad pricey for some folks, but I'm sure that there are quite a few people that'd happily fork over an extra $20 in order to get their new smartphone or tablet the same day that they ordered it. It'd definitely be interesting to give the service a go at least once, if only because it'd be kind of cool to order a new phone online in the morning and then have it delivered to your door just hours later. Here's to hoping that the program opens up even further in the future so that even fewer people have to play the new device waiting game.
