Looks like it's time for another Nokia Lumia device to join Club Amber. Microsoft has announced on the official Windows Phone Blog that Nokia Lumia 822 owners on Verizon should begin receiving the Lumia Amber software update today, Aug. 20. The Lumia Amber update includes goodies like camera improvements, Nokia's Glance Screen clock, double-tap to wake, a Storage Check app and more.
Also included with Lumia Amber is Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 GDR2 update. The Redmond firm detailed the GDR2 update on its blog today, reaffirming that it includes features like FM radio, group messaging support for Verizon customers, CalDAV and CardDAV support for Google calendar and contacts syncing, improvements to Bluetooth and Xbox Music and much more.
If you're a Windows Phone user that wants to find out if your phone is running the GDR2 update, you can go into Settings > About > More info. If the OS version number reads 8.0.10327.77 or 8.0.10328.78, you're up to date.
As for Nokia Lumia 822 users that have yet to install the Lumia Amber/GDR2 update combo, you can mosey on in to Settings > Phone update > Check for update. Considering that this is a tasty software sandwich of the Lumia Amber and GDR2 updates, Lumia 822 owners on Verizon will have a lot of new goodies to play with once the dust settles and the installation is done. Now that T-Mobile and Verizon have rolled Amber out to their respective Lumia models, here's to hoping that AT&T devices like the Lumia 820 and 920 will receive their own invites to Club Amber in the near future.
