Yesterday Motorola officially introduced us to the Moto X and spilled its guts out for all to see, confirming that the phone sports a 4.7-inch 720p AMOLED display, 10-megapixel rear camera, 2GB RAM and more. One detail that didn't exactly get around is the status of the Moto X's bootloader, something that I'm sure many Android tinkerers are curious about. Today Punit Soni, Motorola VP of Product Management, took to Google+ to clarify that matter.

According to Soni, the Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Rogers versions of the Moto X will feature an unlockable bootloader, while Verizon customers that really want to tweak their Moto X will have the option of buying a special Developer Edition Moto X. Motorola will also offer what Soni describes as a "general North American Developer Edition" that may be an AT&T-friendly GSM model. No details on the availability or pricing of the Developer Edition Moto Xs were given.

While it's kind of a disappointment that some versions of the Moto X won't include an unlockable bootloader, it's also not entirely surprising considering all of the other Developer Edition Android phones for AT&T and Verizon that we've seen. I suppose the good news is that customers on Verizon (and presumably AT&T) will at least have the option of snagging a Moto X with an unlockable bootloader. Here's to hoping that they're made available around the same time as the other models so that interested consumers aren't forced to wait around for their Moto X just because they want a model that they can easily tinker with.
