When the Google Play edition HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 devices were first introduced, Google said that both models would receive timely Android software updates. It looks like the company wasn't joking around, as both devices have begun receiving updates to Android 4.3. Brian Klug of Anandtech reports that Android 4.3 just arrived on his GPe HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 units, bringing the phones up to software build JWR66V. The One's update weighed in at 185.5 MB, while the Galaxy S 4's came in at 150.7 MB.

Google first introduced Android 4.3 at its "breakfast with Sundar Pichai event" that took place a little over a week ago, and the update began rolling out to Nexus devices on that same date. That means that the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play editions are receiving their own tastes of Android 4.3 around a week and a half after the Nexus hardware. That sounds pretty prompt to me, and it's good to see that Google, HTC and Samsung stuck to their word and are updating the GPe devices to 4.3 in a timely manner. So, now that we've got an idea of how quickly the Google Play edition phones will receive Android updates, do you plan on picking one of them up?

UPDATE: After digging into the Android 4.3-equipped HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition devices, Anandtech has found that the update brought with it some larger home home screen app icons on both models. The One's IR port is also working now, as is Bluetooth tethering on the Galaxy S 4. Finally the Android 4.3-powered GS4 has traded in the solid black background found in Settings and other menus in favor of a gradient background.
