Today's a big day for T-Mobile-owned MetroPCS, as the prepaid operator is making its way into several new markets and adding a couple of new smartphones to its shelves as well. T-Mobile announced today that the MetroPCS brand is now available in 15 new markets, giving consumers access to its unlimited plans that start at $40 per month. The 15 new markets are:
T-Mobile also revealed that its making its recently-announced "Bring Your Own Phone" program available to all of its customers. The service allows customers to bring in an unlocked GSM phone or an iPhone 5 from Sprint or Verizon and then begin using that device with MetroPCS's service.
Rounding out today's announcements, T-Mobile says that both the Nokia Lumia 521 and LG Optimus F3 will be hitting MetroPCS stores in select markets tomorrow, July 26. The Lumia 521 is MetroPCS's first Windows Phone 8 device and features a 4-inch display, 5-megapixel camera and $99 price tag. Meanwhile, the LG Optimus F3 packs a 4-inch display of its own as well as a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, Android 4.1, 4G LTE connectivity and a price of $149.
It's only been a little under three months since T-Mobile and MetroPCS officially became one, but with the aforementioned BYOP program and this latest brand expansion, it looks like Magenta is working hard to make its new subsidiary's presence known. The addition of the Lumia 521 to MetroPCS's portfolio is also good to see, as it adds another platform to Metro's lineup and gives consumers the option of a new Windows Phone smartphone that's pretty easy on the wallet.
