It was almost one month ago that BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins announced that his company would be launching a new BlackBerry 7 phone in the near future, and since then a steady stream of leaks has been revealing details about the upcoming device. That flow of information continues today, as a new pair of images of what's thought to be BlackBerry's new handset have surfaced.
Two images of the BlackBerry 9720 "Samoa" have been posted to Twitter by @evleaks, showing off a QWERTY-clad smartphone that looks fairly similar to the other leaks that've sprung up lately. Beneath the screen there's an optical trackpad with Send, Menu, Back and End keys surrounding it. There's also a camera around back and a variety of buttons on the outer edge of the 9720, including volume keys and a dedicated BBM button.
Much of BlackBerry's focus lately has been on BlackBerry 10 and the devices that run it, but the company is likely crafting the BlackBerry 7.1-powered 9720 to target consumers in emerging markets that want a new BlackBerry phone but are unable to afford the higher-end BB10 hardware. The spec details of the 9720 are still somewhat light, but we have heard that it'll sport a 480x360 display, which ought to help this make new 'Berry easier on consumers' wallets. Be sure to keep it locked to PhoneDog for more on the 9720, because if the past few weeks are any indication, it won't be long before more information comes to light.
