Remember the DROID Xyboards? It's been a while since we've heard anything about Motorola and Verizon's Android-powered tablet duo, but today they're back in the news thanks to a treat that's headed for both devices. Motorola has revealed on its Android software upgrade news page that both the DROID Xyboard 8.2 and DROID Xyboard 10.1 will receive updates to Android 4.1. There's no mention of when either update will begin rolling out, but hey, at least the Jelly Bean bumps are official. Interestingly, the same Motorola upgrade news page says that the Wi-Fi-only Xyboard 8.2 and 10.1 tablets are slated to remain on Android 4.0.4.

Both the DROID Xyboard 8.2 and DROID Xyboard 10.1 originally launched on Verizon in December 2011 as follow-ups to the XOOM. Neither model ever seemed to gain much traction with consumers, though, and since then there haven't been any new Motorola-Verizon tablet collaborations. The good news for folks that did pull the trigger on a DROID Xyboard is that Motorola and Verizon haven't forgotten about them, and while Android 4.1 isn't exactly the latest and greatest version of Google's mobile OS, it sure beats being stuck on Android 4.0.4 forever.
