Looks like our calendar for May is starting to fill up. Just a couple of days after LG asked us to "save the date" for a May 1 event, Verizon has revealed that it's got a special announcement to make on May 22. The invitation received by Droid-Life notes that the big declaration will actually be taking place in the middle of CTIA, which is going down in Las Vegas from May 21 through May 23. Verizon COO Marni Walden will be the one delivering the news.
As is usually the case in these situations, Verizon makes no mention of what it's planning to announce at this gathering. One possibility is that it could be LTE-related, especially since the carrier is very near to covering its 500th 4G market.
There's also a chance that Walden could have something official to say about the rumored Verizon version of the HTC One. Neither HTC nor Verizon have said anything official about a Big Red One, but a report claimed last month that Verizon will offer the One and that, due to testing, its debut would trail the other operator versions by a month or two. We know that the One is slated to hit AT&T and Sprint on April 19 and T-Mobile on April 24, so a Verizon launch shortly after this May 22 announcement would fit in the rumored timeline. I guess we'll just have to wait until May 22 rolls around to find out exactly what Verizon's got planned. Do you have any guesses as to what Verizon will be announcing?
