Verizon this morning announced the latest addition to its mobile hotspot lineup, known as the Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MiFi 5510L. This new hotspot is made by Novatel Wireless, just like previous MiFi-branded devices, and it'll be available online starting Jan. 31 for $19.99 with a $50 mail-in rebate and two-year contract. In-store availability is expected sometime in the coming weeks. The MiFi 5510 supports up to 10 different connections at a single time and also features capacitive buttons for quick access to certain functions, real-time data usage reports, WEP/WPA2 and VPN support and a battery that is said to last for up to eight hours of continuous use.
New mobile hotspot devices may not make for quite as attractive an announcement as new smartphones, but these products are still popular with folks that need their own Internet connection while out and about but don't want to drain their smartphone's battery by using it as a hotspot. Those customers will need to pony up $20 per month to add the Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MiFi 5510L to one of Verizon's Share Everything plans once the device launches later this month.
